Moon Taxi
While band members hail from Knoxville, the Birmingham metro, and other Southern cities, Moon Taxi honed their craft in Nashville and on the road. Their independent streak led them to start their own label, 12th South Records in the Music City, and they released their first album in 2007. The group soon became a heavy draw at music festivals like Wakarusa in Arkansas and The Hangout Music and Arts Festival on the Alabama coastline. Their spontaneous creativity and tendency to break into long jam sessions endeared them to festival-goers, while they were always eager to experiment with different forms of rock.
New Year, New Music
While Moon Taxi has already booked a few shows for 2020, fans suspect that the band may be spending more time in the studio this year. Last spring, the genre-defying five-piece released two new singles, “Now’s the Time” and “This World.” The fresh songs came just one day after Moon Taxi was announced to play as the opening act of the 2019 NFL Draft. Later that summer, they released a third song, “Restless,” tipping their hand a bit further to suggest a full record in the works. The lyrics on “Restless” celebrate innovation and creativity, with nods to game-changing thinkers like Steve Jobs.
