We’ve heard it before — “I have nothing to wear!” Although you have a plethora of clothing to choose from, if your closet is complete chaos, you’ll never be able to find the perfect outfit. With springtime among us, you’ve probably been sprucing up your house with some routine cleaning, so make sure your next to-do is to head into your closet. Use these closet clean-out tips, so you can do away with the clutter, as well as find your favorite shirt you’ve been missing.
Start Your Edit
It’s time to purge instead of a splurge. Throw everything on your bed, from shoes to sweaters, jeans, and scarves. Everything needs to be removed from your closet. As you look through each item, if it’s in season and you haven’t worn it in the past couple of months, it’s time to sell or donate it. Although, don’t give yourself too much time on this step, as if you overanalyze items, you may keep clothing you don’t truly need. If something no longer fits, has noticeable damage, or is no longer trending in your opinion, let it find a new home! Soon after, you’ll have four piles — keep in-season, keep out of season, donate, and sell. If pieces are out of season, but you would like to keep them, pack them up and store them in a separate space. If you have bins under your bed, those will work just fine, or use your guest bedroom closet to store out-of-season items.
Clean Up Before Proceeding
Before you restore your closet with your favorite pieces, make sure to give it a deep clean. Perhaps you wipe down your shelves, vacuum the floors, sanitize the doorknobs, and even clean out that nasty light fixture — there’s a first time for everything! Your space is slowly but surely going to feel like a breath of fresh air.
Treat Your Self to New Hangers
Broken hangers start the mess in your closet, as they cannot support articles of clothing, so shirts and pants fall all over the floor. If you are looking to go next level, treat your closet to velvet hangers. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they are gentle and sturdy when holding clothes. Over time, once all of your hangers match, you will feel like you’re in the presence of an organized department store.

Put Your Clothes Away
It’s time to restore your space and put away your clothes. Depending on the shelving and storage space you have, you may decide to organize your clothes by color or by category. Pack away the out-of-season items and kiss them goodbye until the temperature drops!
