With the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament coming up, you may want to get into the basketball spirit and catch a game. There is something truly thrilling about watching a game of basketball. You can feel the adrenaline pounding as players run back and forth across the court, crash the boards, and show off their God-given talents in a fun, intense, and competitive game. While you can catch a college game on television, there is something about seeing the action in person. For Knoxville residents, there is nothing like catching a game at the Thompson-Boling Arena at the University of Tennessee.

The Arena

The Thompson-Boling Arena is named in honor of two important memorable individuals. The first is the late B. Ray Thompson Sr., who was a native Tennessean and loyal benefactor to several University of Tennessee academic programs as well as the construction of the arena itself. The other name is one of UT’s former presidents, Dr. Edward J. Boling, who had his name added to the arena at the insistence of Thompson. The arena itself is a sight to behold as it is the third-largest on-campus basketball arena in the United States.

Basketball Season

While the basketball season for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams begins around late October or early November, the season extends until late February with potential games in March. While the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament does not begin until March, and the Vols will have to contend in the SEC Basketball Tournament to see if they can make a spot in the Division I tournament. There are, however, a couple of home games for both the men and women’s teams that you can catch at the Thompson-Boling Arena in February.
