What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of classic family fun? If you said the zoo, you just might be onto something! Seeing new things, learning interesting facts, spending time outside… and to top it all off it’s super enjoyable. There’s truly nothing like a good ole trip to the zoo. And what better zoo to take your little ones to than the one and only Knoxville Zoo? There’s a lot more to this zoo than just the animal counters, and we’re willing to bet there are a few things offered that you might not even realize! We’re going to highlight a few things off the beaten path for you to try out next time you visit.
Ride With the Camels
We’ve all had a desire to ride a horse at some point, but a camel is a more specific desire. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty cool experience. Known as “the ships of the desert,” camels were at one point the main source of transportation, and you can have that encounter as well! Rides happen from 10 am until 4 pm, and are for kids ages 5-15. It’s $6 per person/per ride. You can also feed the camels for $4. If you want to really bond with them, try brushing the camels for only $5. Create a memory and a bond that will last forever!
Have A Hoot at a Night Safari
Daytime zoo visits are a blast, but all the action really goes down when the sun sets. As the website says, “Animals don’t have a bedtime,” so there’s much to see after zoo hours! A night safari is a perfect way to get an inside scoop on how nocturnal and crepuscular creatures operate, and will be an incredible learning experience for all who attend. This is a true chance for you to see animals in a whole new light (or lack of). Private groups can also book their own safari, you just need to book in advance. Anyone of any age can join in, and you can pick 6-8 p.m. or 7-9 p.m., depending on your schedule.
